Post subject: Cisco IOS images that work with GNS3 |
|
Note: This post is NOT asking for IOS images which would be in breach of the Cisco IOS License. We have all loaded the GNS3 software, identified an Cisco IOS, started the router and opened a console. Only to be met with the 'solid green cursor of death', it just sits there and nothing happens. We try to unpack the IOS using a DOS window, and still nothing. So we move onto the next IOS, and the next, and eventually Success!! So which Cisco IOS works?? I have yet to get a 2600 router working, although I have tried five different IOSs. I have had more success with a Cisco 3745 Router which now works very well.

Thanks Rednectar. I broke through the IOS images not working 'barrier' last night. Previously using the Unpacker from the GNS website proved to be a bit unreliable. I downloaded UltimateZIP Command Line version (a recommend from my web searching) and Success!!! Only one 2600 image has not worked.

I haven't seen the video you guys posted yet, but I hope it works. This was why I turned to Ubuntu to run GN3 to use the 2600's.. Thanks Gents!!! alim _________________ AHA CCIE, ITILv3, CCSI, CISSP, CCNP, CCDA, CCNA (Sec, Voice)

I have downloaded this software in the past but was stuck not using it since I could not obtain some cisco images. I did go though cisco acadamy way back in 1998. But rarely got onto a route 'in a corporate environment' to use the ios. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the bin file so I can LEARN the ios before I take the test? Thanks

One of the most commonly used software to prepare for the Cisco exams is GNS3. To use network devices such as Router, Switch on the GNS3 emulator, you must download Cisco images.
GNS3 Supported Cisco Router IOS Images Download
GNS3 is more specific and professional than Cisco Packet Tracer. There is no need to add any Cisco devices to the Packet Tracer, but it is absolutely necessary to download and add the Cisco IOS for GNS3.
You need to use GNS3 to use the actual Router and Switch IOS images. With this software, you can emulate a Cisco Router/Switch and prepare for Cisco exams in a more professional way.
You can download and use the most suitable Cisco images to avoid problems when using the network simulator. You can also check out this article to install GNS3 on your computer.
You also need to configure Minimum RAM when adding a Cisco Router or Switch images to the program. Bulletstorm windows live fix.
If you set a value that is greater than the minimum RAM requirement, you will put more load on your computer's processor and experience performance issues.
If you have a powerful PC, you can also set a higher RAM value for Cisco Routers.
When adding a Router to the simulator software, an IDLE-PC value is also determined. The IDLE-PC value is determined by the hardware specifications of your computer so that the routers you add can work more efficiently.

The running IOS images you can use on GNS3 are the c3640, c3660, c3725, c3745, and c7200 versions.
Here are a few additional Cisco Router images. For example, if you use a c1700 series Router, it will be insufficient because it does not support some features when you create a more advanced network topology.
